Mary Ann
Currier in her own quiet and unassuming manner has served not only on the
Maine Council for 7 years but also at the Chapter level where she served
as President, and Vice President. She retired with 32 years service from
Verizon, and is a Life Member. The unique thing about serving on the
Jasper Keller Chapter is sharing the responsibility of three states;
Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Mary Ann Currier has helped, not only
in her own community and state but on projects in other states as well.
She helped secure space at 1 Davis Farm Rd, Portland, Maine for a Verizon
TelcomPioneer Museum where valuable telephone memorabilia could be
displayed. Actually, the Pioneer Museum was set up twice, as space was
taken over by other work groups. Mary Ann felt it was important to keep a
spot on company property to allow the Life Member Clubs space to work on
their projects and hold meetings.
Spending
many hours working on Special Olympics has always been a favorite pastime
for Mary Ann, involving both family and a lot more friends, old and new.
She developed a survey to help the Maine Special Olympics determine how to
better their existing program and expand it to more campers. She sent the
survey to old and current campers and agencies and tabulated their
responses. The survey helped to streamline some services and expand on
others. Mary Ann always kept fund raising a priority to help keep the
programs afloat. She has helped on the Winter and Summer Special Olympic
Games in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Mary Ann
was also the Guest Chef Coordinator for the Ronald McDonald House for over
4 years. The Pioneers were in on the ground floor of helping build the
Ronald McDonald Houses in Portland, and Bangor, Maine. Mary Ann has helped
cook, clean and decorate the Ronald McDonald House for many occasions,
annually she and her husband, and a few friends cook, and serve a special
dinner during the Christmas season. |
